Mary rides
to the busy town of Bethlehem,
bears her child,
then she lays him in a manger bed:
God is born among us.
Woah! Jesus is with us.
Woah! Filling the world with hope.
Jesus is with us now.
Shepherds wait
in the quiet of a starry night,
heaven speaks
and the glory of the Lord shines bright:
angels sing his praises.
Wise men come
from a far-off land to honour him,
lay their gifts
as they bow before the King of kings:
he will reign forever.

Each year I find myself looking for a Christmas song for our all-age Carol Service. I want something a) catchy, b) that tells the story, c) that includes the familiar characters, d) that's not over-sentimental, e) that doesn't add things that aren't Scripture, and f) that has something to say to us today. Easy, right?! It's actually hard to find songs that fit the bill - so I had a go at writing one. You'll need to be the judge of whether I succeeded, but it's definitely gone down well here at Kings!
