In the valley of despair
and the dark night of the soul
do you hear my whispered prayer,
will you breathe into these bones?
For I see no light at all
and the peace I had is gone,
now my faith is growing cold,
I am barely holding on.
Yet this I tell my soul,
and therefore I have hope:
Great is your everlasting love,
your mercies that are new with every day.
Great is your faithfulness O God
I’m trusting in your goodness and your grace.
As I stumble in the dust
of my brokenness and sin
I am desperate for your touch
to revive my heart again.
I have wandered far away
but there’s nowhere I can hide
If I turn, again, and pray
will you lift me to your side?
For this I tell my soul,
and therefore I have hope:
Because of your steadfast love,
I’ll never be consumed,
for you are my God
and I will wait for you
til salvation comes;
forever you are good,
forever you are good.
